ESPR1101 Introduction to Esports
Faculty: Chiu School of Business, Bow Valley College
Mode: Synchronous Online (with 2-4 optional in-person sessions)

Course Description: In this course, students will have their first look at esports from an entry-level perspective. This course will introduce topics such as the history of esports, the difference between gaming and esports, esports culture, and touch on some topics that will be taught throughout the rest of the esports business management diploma program.

ESPR1101 is part of the Esports Business Management Diploma. Students who join the diploma would also take more traditional business classes such as accounting, business communication and marketing, business law and analytics along with additional classes about Esports.

GAME1101 Introduction to Game Design
Faculty: Centre for Entertainment Arts, Bow Valley College
Mode: Synchronous Online (with 2-4 optional in-person sessions)
Time: TBD

Course Description: In this course, students will learn the fundamentals of game design through mechanics and physical prototypes. Visual scripting introduces game logic and mechanics, while AI tools support rapid iteration, providing inspiration and aiding in idea refinement. Students will balance hands-on design with emerging technologies to enhance gameplay concepts.

This course is a great choice for a student who is passionate about the creative arts (movies, animation, games) and has a passion and desire to create things and show them off.

GAME1101 is a course in both the Foundation in Entertainment Arts Certificate (which many students take to try out different aspects of the industry before moving into a specialty in the Centre for Entertainment Arts Diplomas) and in the Advanced Game Development Diploma
